September 20: 5th annual Starmark Pet Fest

10 am-3pm

Starmark Behavior Center

200 County Road 197, Hutto, TX

The annual festival, which benefits Austin Pets Alive, will be held at the Starmark Behavior Center in Hutto with plenty of activities for both dogs and kids. The event will include: a giant expo with action-packed demonstrations, yappy hour with live music, hayrides, food trucks, dog dashes, a canine carnival and more.

“We are so excited to host Starmark’s Pet Fest for a fifth year,” Keith Benson, president of Starmark Behavior Center, said in a press release. “We look forward to providing a fun event for Central Texas animal lovers while at the same time benefiting the wonderful work of Austin Pets Alive!”

September 27: Austin Pittie Limits

Austin Animal Center

7201 Levander Loop, Austin, TX

Preparing for October Pit Bull awareness month, shelter partners will be on the grounds of the Austin Animal Center to raise public awareness on the benefits of adopting and owning a bully type breed.

The Austin Animal Center wll be joined by several other local shelters & rescues including Austin Pets Alive, Austin Humane Society, Love-A-Bull, Don’t Bully Me Rescue, Animal Trustees of Austin, Emancipet, Austin Police Canines, Mounted Patrol, Nulo Pet Foods and others to be yet announced.

Along with FREE adoptions, there will be live music, food, games, bully success stories, t-shirts and more.

10 am-2pm

Scholz Garten

1607 San Jacinto Blvd, Austin, TX

According to the href=””> website, Puppy Mill Awareness Day was created to raise awareness about the brutal realities of puppy mills.  The event has evolved to include many states across the nation, including Austin, Texas.

On Sunday, there will be live music, food, drinks, rescue & vendor booths and obedience & training demos. All leashed, well-behaved dogs are welcome to this free event.

Also, on Saturday night, Sept. 27, there will be a VIP Reception with Silent & Live Art Auction. The event will include unlimited drinks, food, a silent auction and a live art auction.  Tickets are available at

October 11: 12th annual Pet FestPetfest

10 am-5pm

San Marcos Plaza Park

401 E. Hopkins Street, San Marcos, TX

This family-friendly festival includes a Dog Jog 5K & 1 Mile Fun Run (which begins at 8 a.m.), vendor booths, live entertainment, K-9 Police Demo, training demo, agility demo, pet contests, pet rescues, kids’ activities, a silent auction and more.

Bring your pet (costumes are encouraged) or come meet and greet the homeless pets from local shelters and rescue organizations.  Admission is free, but it is requested that attendees bring a donation of dry pet food. The event benefits PALS mission to provide low-cost spay/neuter services to dogs and cats.  For more information, visit
