FROM THE AUSTIN ANIMAL CENTER
In honor of the great men and women who have served our country, the Center is offering $25 adoption fees for all ready to go dogs and cats and is waiving all adoption fees for all active duty military, veterans and their families through Sunday, November 16.
The Animal Center is currently operating 118 kennels short. The change in temperature, as well as last weeks rain storm, has resulted in a large number of pets getting away from their homes and ending up at the shelter.
With the shelter functioning beyond capacity, the shortage of space puts stress on the animals, the volunteers who work with these pets and the staff who feed and keep the kennels of these pets clean.
“If all of the pets in Travis county had collars with current ID tags and microchips, it would be easier to get these pets home and it would prevent them from having to go through the shelter system” says Chief Animal Services Officer, Abigail Smith.
If a pet is lost, owners should visit the Austin Animal Center first. Owners can also check the Animal Center’s website for a picture of the lost animal at www.austinanimalcenter.org or follow the Center’s twitter feed @austinanimals for lost pets. The twitter feed updates hourly with information on lost pets.
The City is asking if you find a lost pet, please keep the pet safely contained, call 3-1-1 to report the lost animal, and house the animal a few days before turning in to the shelter.
