Local shelters in the Austin-area are offering home for the holiday adoption discounts through the end of December.
The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter (WCRAS) will be offering $25 adoptions for all adult dogs or cats, which will come with spay/neuter, microchip and vaccinations.
“More families bring a new pet home during the holiday season than at any other time of the year.” said Cheryl Schneider, animal services director of WCRAS, in a news release. “The shelter is spreading the joy of adopting by lowering the adoption fees for the holiday season.”
The shelter is also holding a foster drive to help give animals a break from the stresses of shelter life. According to the WCRAS, after fostering, dogs and cats are happier, healthier and ready to find their forever homes.
In San Marcos, the regional animal shelter is holding $20 adoption specials, which includes sterilization, rabies vaccination, de-worming, general health check, microchipping, and testing for Felv/FIV for cats or testing for heartworms for dogs.
Animal shelter supervisor Cole Evans says that the shelter staff is specially trained to help families select the right pet for their personality and lifestyle.
“We can’t think of anything better than seeing these beautiful cats and dogs find their loving, forever families this holiday season,” said Evans in a news release. “With as many as 7 million homeless pets in the United States, it is important that everyone get involved to help save an orphaned animal this holiday season.”
And remember, the Austin Animal Center is also having $25 adoption specials on all ready-to-go dogs and cats and includes spay/neuter, microchip and vaccinations. The shelter is also holding a donation drive for pet items such as toys, treats, jackets for large dogs, and dog houses. Items can be dropped off at the Austin Animal Center daily.
