SXSPets campaign raising funds for local animal organizations

On March 17th, LoveAnimals.org launched a crowdfunding campaign called SXSPets to encourage South by Southwest visitors to donate to online fundraising campaigns for ten Austin-area animal rescue groups.

Organizations from Austin, Georgetown, Round Rock, Leander, and Pflugerville have joined together to raise money for area animals. Individual donors can support important projects such as kennel upgrades for special needs dogs, build-out of a new facility for rescues, the purchase of a trailer for adoption events, and replacement of decades-old washers and dryers.

“Every year, thousands of people leave an impact on Austin during their visit for South by Southwest,” said Stephanie Dill of Shiba Inu Rescue of Texas. “The SXSPets campaign aims to increase the positive impact on the city by inspiring SXSW visitors to donate much-needed funds to local animal organizations like ours.”

Launched in 2013, LoveAnimals.org helps non-profits raise money for animal projects by hosting free crowdfunding campaigns. Unlike many other crowdfunding websites, LoveAnimals.org is a non-profit organization and takes no administrative fees.

“Most small animal non-profits struggle to raise enough money to cover their operating budgets, let alone fund critically needed projects,” said Sarah Timms, founder of LoveAnimals.org. “LoveAnimals.org is a non-profit, too, and our mission is to increase giving to animal non-profits by empowering individuals to help animals.”

Social media is a key component of the campaign, and organizations are asking supporters to share with the hashtag #SXSPets. The crowdfunding campaign will run through mid-April.
