Thundering Paws Animal Sanctuary

AngeloBlue2Angelo Blue

1 year old, Male, Domestic Shorthair

Hi, there! My name is Angelo Blue but my friends just call me Blue. I am looking for my forever home. I am a very independent kitty. I’m a lover, not a fighter, and am also pretty laid back. I’m not that big on being carried around but will sit in your lap sometimes. I enjoy the company of other kitties very much because I love to play and be silly. I live with several dogs and like them a lot, too.

claire5Claire

6 years old, Female, Domestic Shorthair

Say hello to Claire! This lovely lady is looking for her forever home. She was rescued from the streets of Austin. Life on the streets was hard but Claire is very affectionate, good natured and an absolute purr machine! Claire is active and smart. She is missing three canine teeth, a result of life on the streets. She gets along fine with other kitties. She knows two other dogs and gets along with both and sometimes chases one around the house. What Claire wants most in her forever home is a nice couch or chair to curl up in, regular meals and someone to love and to love her.

mary4Mary

3 years old, Female, Domestic Shorthair

Mary is a sweet black cat with big golden eyes who was rescued from a bad situation. She’s a quiet girl who prefers people to other kitties. She likes being petted a lot, especially on her back and near her tail. As you can see from her photo, she also loves snoozing in the warm sun up on the cat tree out on the screened-in porch. Mary would appreciate a calm forever home and would not mind at all being the only pet.

Queenie6Queenie

Female, Domestic Shorthair

Queenie was left behind when her person passed away. She likes people and follows them around for attention. Queenie has adjusted well to new situations. She’s an adult cat, age unknown, spayed, vaccinated, and ready for a new home.

Piper1Piper

11 months, Female, Mix

Hi, my name is Piper and I am looking for my forever home. I was abandoned as a younger puppy and had a hard time because no one wanted me. But I’m happy now that I have a foster home and I am excited about finding a home where I’ll belong for good! I am a very spirited pooch and I love to run and play! I am great on a leash and we can have fun walks and jogs together. I have met some other dogs and children and I think I would love to play with them.

Austin Pets Alive!

questQuest

Weimaraner, female, 7 years, 4 months

Quest is gentle, playful and sweet tempered. She enjoys the company of people and would very much like someone to take her for a walk. Her constant tail wagging says, “I’m glad you’re with me, let’s have fun together exploring.” This gorgeous girl waits calmly and happily for her leash to be put on, then she is ready to go. When the walk is over, some time playing ball would suit Quest just fine before chilling out for the evening. Quest is a stop and smell the roses kind of girl who meets people and other animals easily. She is open to trying new things when she is with her family or her special someone.

ChachiChachi

Pit Bull Terrier/Lacy, male, 5 years, 2 months

Chachi is a sweet boy who is eager to learn in exchange for bits of hot dog, but he would rather snuggle up in your lap and generously dole out kisses. This boy has a medium energy level and and will appreciate an adopter who will take him on a daily walk around the neighborhood. A staff and volunteer favorite, he has been getting plenty of help with his manners and leash skills and has shown himself to be an eager and fun student. After he’s gotten his exercise, he’d love nothing more than to lie down and watch a movie with you.

SadieSadie

Australian Kelpie, female, 9 years

Are you looking for a dog with prior experience on her resume? Sadie is supposed to be entering her doggie golden years, but it doesn’t appear that anybody sent her the memo. She is healthy and fit, and has a good amount of energy for a dog her age. Now in foster care, she adores her human friends and wants to be with them at all times, showering them with affection, giving kisses and asking for petting and belly rubs. She is delighted to be invited to cuddle in bed. Sadie would prefer to be the only dog but is currently successfully sharing her foster home with a cat.

EllsworthEllsworth 5

Manx, male, 1 year, 3 months

Ellsworth is a cute little cuddle monster with some special needs. He was born incontinent which requires helping him express his bladder. This is easy to do and learn. He was also born with a rear leg deformity that gives him the gait of a hopping bunny. None of this stops him from his quest of being a cute, playful and loving kitten. Ellsworth would do well in any home with a caretaker committed to his special needs.

We could go on walks, watch tv, or just snuggle on the couch. Will you be the one to show me how wonderful the world can be?

NykieNykie

Labrador Retriever/Shepherd mix, female, 2 years

Meet Nykie! Nykie is a sweet girl that is looking for her perfect family! Anyone who is free with their belly rubs is perfect in her eyes. That’s how she likes to meet people, but rolling over and asking for a good scratch! She is a playful girl that enjoys her squeaky toys and is very good about entertaining herself but of course, having someone to play with is always better. Nykie would do wonderful with people of any age!

Austin Pets Alive!

chocoChoco

American Pit Bull Terrier/Catahoula Leopard, male, 10 years, 2 months

This snuggly goofball’s favorite things include walking the Ladybird Lake (Town Lake) trail, playing with his stuffed animals, and cuddling with our volunteers. He is great on leash and enjoys taking in all the smells and happily greeting admirers. When he’s tuckered out, he’ll lie down with a stuffed toy, playfully tossing it up to himself. He also loves curling up next to people, hoping you’ll scratch his back or rub his soft belly while he dozes off.

drumstickDrumstick

Labrador Retriever/Mountain Cur, male, 3 years, 5 months

Drumstick seems like a Labrador through and through. The stunning eyes, adorable face (which he fully sticks in his water bowl at drink time), beautifully colored coat and intelligence all point to the exuberant Labrador. Looking for a way to burn off all his energy? Drummy LOVES to go swimming. There’s nothing better in the world to him than to chase balls as they are thrown over the water. Because of his sheer size and true-to-Labrador tendency to have no idea where his entire body is in space, Drumstick needs a home with no small children or cats.

blue meadowBlue Meadow

Pit Bull Terrier, female, 4 years, 9 months

Just look into the eyes of this sweetheart of a dog and you will make an instant connection. Blue will win you over with her smarts, her heart, her loyalty, and readiness to be a valuable part of a wonderful family. This sweet girl prefers to be a homebody. She’s comfortable being in a familiar home. Although she has been nervous out in strange, crowded and noisy places, she visited a couple restaurants recently and did well!
Blue is an attentive, loving girl with a sense of humor who could be a great walking or one day running partner.

captain bonkersCaptain Bonkers

Domestic Shorthair, male, 3 years, 3 months

Captain Bonkers is a sweet boy with a very loving disposition. He’s a little shy at first (making new friends can be intimidating!) but after he knows you’re cool, he’s happy to get to know you! He doesn’t want to be held tight… maybe this feels just a bit undignified to a Captain. But, tummy rubs? He’ll overcome his dignity for these! Captain Bonkers would do best in a slow and peaceful home with one or more cat buddies and loving humans that will lavish him with petting, affection and conversation.

kylieKylie

Siamese, female, 8 years, 2 months

Kylie is a wonderfully cat-like cat. She acts just as a cat should in every situation. She enjoys lounging around the house, batting around a toy here and there, and rubbing against your legs. Kylie will purr like a motorboat while being pet or even while she lies next to you. This girl does not like to be picked up, but she is always very friendly and welcoming. She is curious about other cats, and if they are open to her she will be their friend. Kylie is friendly with children too.

Thundering Paws Animal Sanctuary

jimmy_headJimmy

Domestic Shorthair, male, 5 years

Jimmy is a shy, sweet fellow who likes other kitties.  He enjoys quiet, calm environments.  Given these conditions, Jimmy’s sweet personality comes out, and he wants petting and interaction.  He has a very gentle nature and enjoys being with other cats who are dominant, because he’s not.

RosieRosie

Domestic Shorthair, female, 5 years

Rosie is such a sweetie. Rosie likes everyone. She loves people and loves to play with other kittens. She was found injured outside the Wells Fargo bank in Dripping Springs, probably hit by a car, but she has completely recovered. She has beautiful big golden eyes and sleek black fur.

WinkyWinky

Domestic Shorthair, female, 1 year 9 months

Winky is a petite long-haired cat whose black fur has cinnamon undertones. It’s not clear how she hurt  her eye, but after she was trapped as a four-month old kitten in Dripping Springs in January of 2014, the injury was so severe that her eye was removed. She gets along with other cats, even the obnoxious ones at her foster family’s home, and, once she warms up to you, will snuggle in your lap for petting and purring sessions. Winky has impeccable manners, a cute scar and a fashionable cropped ear. She’s ready for a home of her own.

Tigger1Tigger

Domestic Shorthair, male, 1 year, 9 months

Hi, I’m Tigger and I’m a really nice guy. I’m friendly and affectionate and when my foster mom picks me up I like to be kissed on the cheek. I also love to be brushed, especially around my cheeks and chin. That feels so good! I love to find a ray of sun and have a good snooze. Plus I’ve learned to sleep through the night in my cat bed and I’ve been gaining weight since my foster mom first found me. Sometimes I can be a bit timid but am learning to trust more and I do get along with other cats. I’m a great companion all the way around.

Cassidy2Cassidy

Retriever Mix, female, 11 months

Hello! My name is Cassidy and I so want a forever home! I had a rough start, but now that I have a foster family I hope the rest of my life will be great! At first, I may seem a little shy, but if you will show me love, I’ll warm up to you. I love to run and jog and play outside but am having to limit my exercise right now. My dog doctor says I have a condition called hypertrophic osteodystrophy, (HOD). This is a temporary condition which should go away when my bones stop growing so fast, probably in two years or less. I get along fine with other dogs but I do chase cats.

Austin Animal Center

MustachioMustachio (ID A703168)

Domestic short hair, male, 3 months

This outgoing and very active boy needs a playmate! Kittens are good in pairs, or if you have a cat at home that needs a companion, he is at a perfect age to make that introduction! He is very social and was raised with other cats, dogs and children! Mustachio is a kitten that was in our foster program, along with his two other siblings.

TobyToby (ID A705366)

Terrier mix, male, 3 months

Puppy, puppy, puppy!  We all know that puppies need to live indoors  with supervision! Yes, they are more work than an adult dog that is already trained but sometimes you just cannot resist. Stop! You need to! Think before you adopt any pet, how much free time do you really have to raise a baby?

RubyRuby (ID A704858)

Mini Pincher, female 4 years

Princess Ruby is great on her leash, loves to be held, rides great in the car and is searching for her forever home!

AthenaAthena (ID A702614)

Anatolian mix, female, 1 year

Athena arrived at Austin Animal Center in very poor shape. She was underweight, and in need of health care and flea control. She was very shy and concerned about everything around her. Athena is a different girl now! Social and loving she is feeling much better and really enjoys company! Loves to stroll on her leash and play with other dogs!

MiloMilo (ID A701108)

Labrador mix, male, 8 years

He is friendly, well-behaved, an expert at wiggling onto your lap, snuggling, and getting belly rubs. Milo loves people and other dogs. He is young enough to be playful and take you on long walks or short jogs, and walks nicely on leash, but he is also housebroken and mature enough to be trusted alone in the house while you are at work and to let you sleep in. Beautiful Milo is great with the two senior dogs in his foster home, but would also love a more playful doggie sibling.

City of Austin and two Texans among nominees for first ever ‘Pet Parents’ Choice Awards’

The city of Austin and two Texans are among those nominated for the first ever “Pet Parents’ Choice Awards” put on by pet blog Pet360.

The awards, which include the categories of “Most Inspiring Rescue” and “Best Pet Viral Video,” are designed to celebrate pets and pet advocates.

The story of a 13-year-old boxer named Annie went viral last year when it was reported that her stay at Austin Pets Alive!, had exceeded an almost unprecedented 1,000 days. In 2014, 22-year-old Lauren Flickinger of San Marcos finally adopted Annie despite her medical issues after seeing her picture on a Facebook post. Flickinger is now one of the five nominees up for “Most Heartwarming Adoption” of the last year.

Arlington’s Sgt. Gary Carter, who famously rescued a pit bull after crossing paths with the dog a number of times while on the job, is also nominated for “Most Heartwarming Adoption.”

The winner will receive $1,000 to donate to a local animal shelter of their choice.

Noting our big Texas-sized hearts, Pet360 also recognized Austin’s citywide pet friendliness, referencing our no-kill policydog-friendly restaurants, off-leash parks, pet-friendly hotels and cat cafe, which is coming soon. Seattle, Tucson, Ariz., Charleston S.C. and Portland, Ore. are the other four cities up for the top honor of “Top City for Pets.”

The city that receives the most online votes will be awarded a $5,000 cash prize, to be given to a local animal shelter. If Austin were to win, the prize money would go to Austin Pets Alive!

Voting opens next Monday and will run through Aug. 2. The winners will be announced Aug. 5.

Austin Animal Center asks community to delay turning in lost pets during Tropical Storm Bill

From the City of Austin:

In anticipation of Tropical Storm Bill, the Austin Animal Center is asking the community to delay surrendering or turning in lost animals for the next 48 hours due to the center being at capacity.

The City will be evacuating approximately 50 dogs from the Town Lake Animal Center, 1156 W. Cesar Chavez St., in preparation of possible flooding. The dogs will be temporarily moved to the Austin Animal Center, 7201 Levander Loop.

“If you find a lost pet or are planning to surrender a pet we are asking people to keep pets with them as long as they safely can before opting to bring a pet into the shelter” Chief Animal Services Officer Tawny Hammond said.

Additionally, the City is asking already approved foster volunteers and rescue partners to temporarily take a large to medium-sized dog for the next 24-72 hours.
Approved fosters should email Animal.Foster@austintexas.gov with the title: “TEMPORARY FOSTER.”  All animals will be available for pickup at the Austin Animal Center, Levander Loop location.

The Austin Animal Center will remain open today until 7 p.m.

Residents looking for lost pets should:

  • Visit austinanimalcenter.org
  • Follow @austinanimals on Twitter for regularly posted lost pets
  • Utilize the Finding Rover app that helps reunite pets with families.

For those wishing to offer immediate assistance, the Austin Animal Center is accepting new or gently used large/medium dog crates, clean towels and sheets.

Also, if you are considering adopting a pet, now is the time. Either go to the Levander Loop site or contact Austin Pets Alive at austinpetsalive.org. Also, Austin Pets Alive is seeking volunteers.

Normal hours of operation are from 11am to 7 p.m. daily at Austin Animal Center and 11:30am-7pm at Town Lake Animal Center.

Thundering Paws Animal Sanctuary

JasmineJasmine

Domestic Shorthair, female, 4 years old

Hi, I’m Jasmine. I’m a dainty little package with a lot of personality and a sweet nature.  I love to snuggle in a spare lap and I like to be brushed and petted. I’m smart and would be a good candidate for learning tricks.  I’ve lived with a couple of small dogs and we pretty much ignore each other and I was fine with that.  I should probably be an only cat because sometimes I can be a bit of a bully.

StretchStretch

Domestic Shorthair, male, 10 months old

Because my sisters, brothers and I were homeless without regular meals and human love, I admit I’m a little shy at first. But now I’ve learned how to purr like a little engine and stretch my arms out towards you when you walk in the room. I like other cats when they play with me and I’m learning about the dog that lives at my foster home. He seems nice enough. I’d do well in a home with adults or with a family with older kids.

TootsieTootsie

Domestic Shorthair, female, 10 months old

Hi, I’m Tootsie. I’m a sweet, gentle girl who is a little shy with people. I’m still learning to trust but once I’m on your lap I will purr for you and enjoy being petted. I love snoozing in a hammock and watching through the window as birds come to the feeder. I’ll do best in a fairly quiet home, and I wouldn’t mind having another kitty to play with. If you’re looking for a pair of kittens, please consider me and one of my siblings.

TiggerTigger

Domestic Shorthair, male, 1 year 9 months old

Hi, I’m Tigger and I’m a really nice guy. I’m friendly and affectionate and when my foster mom picks me up I like to be kissed on the cheek. I also love to be brushed, especially around my cheeks and chin. I’m only about a year old but I’ve had a rough life. I hung around one of my foster mom’s feral colonies for a while until she realized I wasn’t wild. I’m learning to play which is something I couldn’t do before I had a foster home. I love to find a ray of sun and have a good snooze.

CassidyCassidy

Retriever Mix, female, 11 months old

SaraSara (ID A701979)

Labrador mix, female, 10 years old

Our hearts ache for Sara, surrendered at 10 years old from the only home she’s ever known had due to the owner’s failing health. She has pretty, light colored soulful eyes that crave human companionship. She’s good with calm dogs, no cats please, is very housebroken and does well with children. She’s just at the 50lb mark, fit and healthy and will work well in any loving indoor home environment.

Cookie & BlueCookie & Blue (IDs A697187 & A697188)

Great on leash, checks in frequently, loves to be petted. These are just a few words that describe beautiful Athena was all skin and bones when she 1st arrived. Now with AAC TLC she is looking great! Quiet and timid at times she should have a patient owner with experience around dogs. Athena loves to come indoors and lay by my desk, she would love to live indoors with you!

Austin Pets Alive!

APA slateSlate

Pit Bull Terrier/Lacy, male, 2 years, 1 month old

Slate came to the shelter as a stray, and is looking for a home where he can learn the ins and outs of being a family dog. Slate is a young dog who has a fair amount of energy. He loves his daily walks, and isn’t opposed to a run. This boy loves to swim, and as he’s very athletic, and might even be up for some agility training. While Slate settles into a home, it would be best for him to be the only dog in the house. His size and enthusiasm might be too much for smaller children, but a home with older kids could be good for him.

APA wilsonWilson

Labrador Retriever, male, 2 years, 6 months old

Wilson once was hard at work as a drug detection dog. Today, he still loves to find hidden things – tennis balls and squeaky toys – because those are a lot more fun.  This exuberant, agile boy is something of a wild child who loves to climb up stairs and rocks to find hidden treasures. Wilson is a people lover who tries to greet everyone he sees with great enthusiasm and wants to be their snuggle buddy. Other dogs and cats, not so much. He wants to be the only pet in a home to get all the attention.

APA juneauJuneau

Saint Bernard, female, 11 years old

Juneau is an affectionate, easy-going dog who loves attention. Even though she’s a senior, she still wants to play and be youthful. She has a very motherly demeanor and is sweet towards kids and other dogs.  Juneau is looking for a relaxed, low-key forever home with the patience and compassion for an older, large breed. She’s housetrained, but has occasional incontinence at night. This big girl does have hip dysplasia and it should be noted that she has tested positive for heartworms. Due to her age, though, our vets do not recommend she is treated for them as it will be too hard on her body.

APA candyCandy

Domestic Shorthair, female, 4 years, 9 months old

Candy is relaxed and affectionate around children and other cats! She is afraid of dogs, however. Otherwise, she is confident, meowing at you in the kitchen and following you around the house – hoping to sit on you! Candy is respectful and gentle when she plays with everyone – you, kids, and other cats. Candy is affectionate and quiet, enjoying when you brush her coat and pick her up and hold her.

APA luluLulu

Domestic Medium Hair, female, 15 years, 5 months old

Lulu is a beautiful and quiet introvert who keeps to herself and avoids trouble. She is basically a feral housecat, preferring to be left alone in her own space in her foster home rather than cuddled or handled in any way; though after many months, she thinks her foster mom is okay and will let her touch her now and then. Lulu is a senior cat, doesn’t have any teeth, has early kidney disease, and is positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. The ideal home for Lulu is with cat-experienced people who would respect her space and boundaries, and who would love her and ensure she had the care she needed.

Our hearts ache for Sara, surrendered at 10 years old from the only home she’s ever known had due to the owner’s failing health. She has pretty, light colored soulful eyes that crave human companionship. She’s good with calm dogs, no cats please, is very housebroken and does well with children.

Cookie and BlueCookie & Blue (IDs A697187 & A697188)

Pit Bull mixes, female & male

Cookie is actually the younger of these two; she is 4 years old and Blue is 6 years old. They are very bonded together and very well behaved together. Both are housetrained and love to go out for strolls. They are accustomed to living indoors and have lived with children.

JimmyJimmy

Domestic Shorthair, male, 5 years old

Jimmy is a shy, sweet fellow who likes other kitties.  He enjoys quiet, calm environments.  Given these conditions, Jimmy’s sweet personality comes out, and he wants petting and interaction.  He has a very gentle nature and enjoys being with other cats who are dominant, because he’s not.

RosieRosie

Domestic Shorthair, female, 5 years old

Rosie is such a sweetie. Rosie likes everyone. She loves people and loves to play with other kittens. She was found injured outside the Wells Fargo bank in Dripping Springs, probably hit by a car, but she has completely recovered. She has beautiful big golden eyes and sleek black fur.

WinkyWinky

Domestic Shorthair, female, 1 year 9 months old

Winky is a petite long-haired cat whose black fur has cinnamon undertones. It’s not clear how she hurt  her eye, but after she was trapped as a four-month old kitten in Dripping Springs in January of 2014, the injury was so severe that her eye was removed. Winky is a chill, confident cat who loves nesting in strange places (like the recycling bin at her foster home), climbing high and exploring.

FujiFuji

Siamese Mix, male, 11 years old

Fuji was abandoned by his last caretaker. He is a beautiful Siamese mix. Fuji would be happiest as an only cat and would love to snuggle up to his person for a quiet evening of TV watching or reading. He is front declawed, so he would benefit from a step stool so he can climb onto the bed for a nice snooze.

CassidyCassidy

Retriever Mix, female, 11 months old

Hello! My name is Cassidy and I so want a forever home! I do a good job pleasing and obeying my family.

Hey, I’m Alex! I’m a sensitive pup looking for a patient, loving home! I’m still learning how to connect with humans, you guys are just so big and make so many noises! But I promise to be the best dog I can be. Will you be the one to teach me?

5 videos of cute animals wearing clothes, from baby goats to sleepy pugs

Baby goats are taking over the internet. Last week, it was a trio of baby goats in sweaters, this week it’s a pair of baby goats in pajamas. The frolicking duo are Winifred and Monty, three-week-old Nigerian dwarf goat siblings that currently live on Sunflower Farm in Maine, according to WCSH 6.

Desperate for more animals-in-clothing cuteness, we searched the internet for videos. Here are a few of the cutest:

Baby Goats in Sweaters

The video that started the baby goat craze in the first place. The goat triplets, who live on Denmans Critters Farm, can be seen hanging out in style:

Sleepy Pug in Pajamas

If animals in pajamas are all you crave, this video is for you. A sleepy pug named Doug, decked out in duckie pajamas, is filmed laying in bed with a pug plush and even nodding off at points. If that’s not enough cuteness for you, a lullaby also plays in the background to lull the pug to sleep.

Puppy Dressed as a Teddy Bear

This puppy, who goes by “Munchkin the Teddy Bear” on YouTube, closely resembles an Ewok in his teddy bear costume. Here, he’s filmed getting in some oversize on a treadmill, but the plush pet has a whole channel of delightful videos to choose from.

Monkey in a Snowsuit

At first sight, this monkey dressed in a snowsuit looks like a bouncy, bundled-up toddler. It isn’t until his owner picks him up that we see he’s been dressed up for a snowy outing. The results are simply adorable.
