Glory 1 Glory (ID A711167)

8-year-old Chihuahua mix, spayed female

She has a really big personally for such a little dog! Lovely to be around and great on her walks. if you enjoy a smaller companion dog that will sit in your lap, come meet Glory! She keeps her kennel very clean and will sit for treats.

CeceCece (ID A673530)

4-year-old Chihuahua mix, spayed female

CeCe has been with Austin Animal Center since March, 2015. Her ears seemed to be peeling when she arrived, our veterinarians thought they may have been frost bitten. According to her foster parent, CeCe is very affectionate and has a sensitive personality. She likes to snuggle and cover herself up in her bed like a queen!  She is potty trained and will bark only when she wants to go out. She would make a great pet for someone that needs a buddy to hang out with as she prefers to be the only pet.

LuigiLuigi (ID A711072)

3-month-old Domestic short hair kitten, neutered male

What a love! Luigi wants to be next to you and in your lap pretty much all the time! He loves to play with toys and will chase anything that moves!

Austin Pets Alive

bamaBama 12

1 year, Male, Domestic Shorthair

Bama is a gregarious and trusting cat in spite of having a rough start in life. He absolutely adores people, and prefers to spend all of his time in their company. He also really loves dogs, and almost treats them as though they’re people. He’s totally unfazed by dogs running around or getting up close and personal to them. We also think that he would really love kids. He’s so friendly that he loves and accepts everyone.

9 years, Female, Ragdoll mix

Nala is a gorgeous girl who would love nothing more than to be brushed and petted all day. She is a ragdoll mix with a goddess-like, long white coat and unique facial markings. She always likes to look her best and has excellent grooming and litter manners. Nala tolerates other cats and kittens but is definitely a solo act who would prefer a single cat home. She enjoys a luxurious lifestyle and will spend all day basking in the sun.

9 years, female, Lhasa Apso mix

Through no fault of her own, Carley was given up by the only family she’s ever known due to a condition with her eyes that has left her almost blind. Frankly, what Carley wants most is to be with a calm family that will give her the space to feel safe and loved on her terms.

3 years, female, Australian Shepherd mix

This sweet girl was surrendered by a family who said she’s very affectionate and a great soccer player, but was overly protective and too prone to barking at strangers approaching the house. In a previous foster home, Winnie proved to be a well-behaved girl who seems house trained and obeys such commands as sit, shake and lay. She’s working on her leash training and still pulls some.

Cchocohoko Bell

2 years, male, Australian Cattle Dog mix

Whether you want to enjoy Austin’s outdoorsy atmosphere, or kick your feet back and relax, Choko is ready and willing to be your pal along for the journey. His excitement when there is a frisbee in your hand goes to show his enthusiasm for the outdoors and his playfulness!

Central Texas SPCA

2 years, female

Hi, my name is Phoebe and I’ve been told that I’m a sweetheart. I’ve got the energy of a lab but I’m a bit smaller. So basically I’ve got all the brains and beauty but in a smaller package! I love to be outside and lay in the sun with people, but I’m curious and excited by the idea of soft beds! I’m intimidated by other dogs, so I’d like to be the only dog in your life.

cookie bench 2Cookie

7 years, female

Cookie is a sweet older lady with an easygoing attitude. She lives life on the slow side, and we’re happy to follow her lead! She seems to get along with other dogs just fine, her friend Mufasa can vouch for that! Cookie enjoys lap time above all things, and we’ve learned that she’ll do anything you want for a treat.

3 months, male

I am an outgoing, lovable little guy.  One of my favorite activities is batting at feather toys and chasing fake mice around. I love to play with visitors, have my belly rubbed, kick a few catnip toys around, and then stretch out for a good, long nap.

mufasa featureMufasa

7 years, male

Mufasa enjoys long walks in the sun and cuddling with anyone and everyone. He’s pretty chilled out most of the time, and gets along well with his friend Cookie. He’d be a good family dog, as he’s friendly with most everyone.

Texas Humane Heroes

1 year, female, Domestic Medium Hair

Hello there, I am Scarlett! I am a refined cat that is looking for a nice quiet home to call my own. I am slow to warm up to new places, but if there is a friendly face I become quite the lover.

9 months, female, Domestic shorthair

Introducing Brooke! Brooke is a fun and feisty girl that loves to play! Her favorite toy just happens to be one that she will never lose- her tail! She could play for hours and would love to have you for a play mate. When she isn’t having an adventure, she is ready to spend the evening relaxing in your lap and getting some love and pets.

2 years, male, Terrier mix

Washington here! I’m a bit of a wallflower (walldog?) still figuring all this Human Stuff out. Everyday, I’m learning how wonderful people can really be! The yummy treats sure help. I’m looking for a quiet, patient home to help me grow into the best, confident dog I can be.

1 year, female, Terrier/Retriever mix

Hello! My name is Shadow! I need a family who likes to be active and stay on their feet! I’m very energetic and I love to show off my skills while playing fetch. I also love to be the center attention so I need to be the primary dog in your life. I’m full of love and kisses to share with you! Will you be Shadow’s knight in shining armor?

3 years, male, Toy Poodle mix

Hi guys, I’m Curly! Lets be best friends already! I’m a low-rider with an interesting blue curly coat! I’m basically a blue lion, that’s my spirit animal. I’m probably a dachshund-poodle mix, which means I’m super smart and loving! I also get along with other dogs, but people are my favorite. I will make a great companion for any family.

Thundering Paws Animal Sanctuary

3 years, Female, Domestic Shorthair

Speck would do well in a calm home.  A bit shy, she doesn’t like to compete for attention with other cats, although she gets along with them.  She was rescued from a hoarding situation, and still has chronic upper respiratory symptoms from that former life.

1 year, Female, Domestic Shorthair

Margo is a young mother (in 2015).  She is a good mom, very patient and serene. She is engaging but undemanding.  Is restless and tired of being cooped up with 4 rowdy kittens. Her foster caretaker believes she could be a lovely gentle companion once she does not have kittens to deal with.

4 months, Female, Domestic Shorthair

Zuzu is a dainty tuxedo, quick and nimble.  As of August 2015, she and her sister Snowe are at about the same level of human engagement.  They are still a little cautious but both enjoy touching and playing. They aren’t ready to be lap cats yet.  Her other sisters are Ava and Uma.

4 months, Female, Domestic Shorthair

Snowe is exceptionally bright and quite talkative. She has a distinctive little swagger that will make you smile.  She wants you to pet her … but she’s not quite sure … so she will circle around and come within reach sideways and backwards. She does not like to be picked up but enjoys rubs and scratches and belly play.

4 months, Female, Domestic Shorthair

Ava is friendly and might make a good lap cat.  Daughter of Margo, she is the boldest of her litter: the first to engage people, first to explore beyond the room. Quick to come and play. She has lots of potential.

BarkHappy, the Austin-created app that connects dog owners to other dogs and their people, is throwing an ice cream social from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Fair Market, 1100 E. Fifth St.

Event partner Amy’s Ice Creams will provide free dog ice cream, and activities will include an agility course, nail trims, dog tattoos and more for both canines and humans. Dog-friendly businesses involved include Mud Puppies, the Canine Center for Training and Behavior, and Woof Gang Bakery. A $10 donation at the door gets you in; you also can register (and donate) in advance here.

It all benefits Austin Pets Alive, one of Austin’s largest dog and cat nonprofit rescue groups, and Service Dogs Inc., which trains rescue dogs to work with people with mobility or hearing issues.

BarkHappy is a free location-based app that launched in July. People use it to connect with other people and their dogs nearby for play dates and to find dog-friendly businesses while they’re out and about. The app also sponsors a weekly meetup.
